These capabilities were achieved by training a state-of-the art image captioner to generate better textual descriptions for the images that we trained our models on. For example, the feedback helped us identify edge cases for graphic content generation, such as sexual imagery, and stress test the model's ability to generate convincingly misleading images. As part of the work done to prepare DALL•E 3 for deployment, we've also taken steps to limit the model's likelihood of generating content in the style of living artists, images of public figures, and to improve demographic representation across generated images. In early internal evaluations, it is over 99% accurate at identifying whether an image was generated by DALL•E when the image has not been modified. It remains over 95% accurate when the image has been subject to common types of modifications, such as cropping, resizing, JPEG compression, or when text or cutouts from real images are superimposed onto small portions of the generated image. Despite these strong results on internal testing, the classifier can only tell us that an image was likely generated by DALL•E, and does not yet enable us to make definitive conclusions. Key concepts Text generation models OpenAl's text generation models (often referred to as generative pre-trained transformers or "GPT" models for short), like GPT-4 and GPT-3.5, have been trained to understand natural and formal language. Models like GPT-4 allows text outputs in response to their inputs. The inputs to these models are also referred to as "prompts". Designing a prompt is essentially how you "program" a model like GPT-4, usually by providing instructions or some examples of how to successfully complete a task. Models like GPT-4 can be used across a great variety of tasks including content or code generation, summarization, conversation, creative writing, and more. Assistants Assistants refer to entities, which in the case of the OpenAl API are powered by large language models like GPT-4, that are capable of performing tasks for users. These assistants operate based on the instructions embedded within the context window of the model. They also usually have access to tools which allows the assistants to perform more complex tasks like running code or retrieving information from a file. Embeddings An embedding is a vector representation of a piece of data (e.g. some text) that is meant to preserve aspects of its content and/or its meaning. Chunks of data that are similar in some way will tend to have embeddings that are closer together than unrelated data. OpenAl offers text embedding models that take as input a text string and produce as output an embedding vector. Embeddings are useful for search, clustering, recommendations, anomaly detection, classification, and more. Read more about embeddings in our embeddings guide. Tokens Text generation and embeddings models process text in chunks called tokens. Tokens represent commonly occurring sequences of characters. For example, the string " tokenization" is decomposed as " token" and "ization", while a short and common word like " the" is represented as a single token. Note that in a sentence, the first token of each word typically starts with a space character. Check out our tokenizer tool to test specific strings and see how they are translated into tokens. As a rough rule of thumb, 1 token is approximately 4 characters or 0.75 words for English text. One limitation to keep in mind is that for a text generation model the prompt and the generated output combined must be no more than the model's maximum context length. For embeddings models (which do not output tokens), the input must be shorter than the model's maximum context length. Before launching Resend, he built docs in-house for various projects, most recently as VP of Developer Experience at WorkOS. While Zeno wanted the control and customization you get from DIY docs for Resend, he didn’t have the budget, resources, or time to spare. And as a Y Combinator (W23) startup, Resend needed to prove traction right away. “We had to figure out how to make something fast, but still have that quality factor,” says Zeno. The Search for a Documentation Partner With skepticism that he would get the quality he wanted, Zeno launched a search for a product that could help Resend build first-class docs fast—without pain and frustration. His top requirements: Modern, beautiful, and customizable design ¢ fit for developer workflows The fact that you can write content in markdown, don’t need to think about how to display it nicely, and it just renders well is the functionality we needed—Mintlify checked all the boxes. @ Zeno Rocha, Founder & CEO The Solution Before Mintlify, Resend tested two other documentation platforms, but were disappointed by the outdated designs, lack of customization, and poor readability. “I didn’t feel like they cared about docs as much as | did,” he says. “If you're building a developer product, you need a partner, not just a vendor.” So in November of 2022, they tried Mintlify, hopeful that fellow YC alumni (W22) could deliver on design and performance. Impressed by what they saw, Resend also chose Mintlify for its open source project, React Email. Time savings Right away, Mintlify’s white-glove docs migration, which was completed in less than two days, gave Zeno the crucial thing every founder needs: time. “If | had done that manually, it taken me hours. But even if it took me two minutes, that’s the type of work | don’t want to do. It’s not the best use of my time,” he says. Introduction Quickstart Customization without the hassle Out of the box, Mintlify’s starter templates, which have built-in essentials like sidebars and quick-start cards, impressed Zeno. “You can tell Mintlify has kept up with the trends around docs,” he says. Resend easily customized the templates, creating a seamless fit between its website and docs, both featuring the same simple, black and white aesthetic. Send Email Body Parameters Zero friction for developers The days of tedious documentation updates are long gone. Zeno describes Resend’s process in one word: fast. Because creating and updating docs with Mintlify is as simple as updating a markdown file and pushing to GitHub, there’s no friction with current developer workflows. Additionally, there’s no need for added steps or tools, developers are more motivated to update docs, so there’s less of a chance of docs going stale. Results By early August 2023, just eight months post-launch, Resend already had 15,000 users. Zeno credits some of that success to the time and energy Mintlify freed up for Resend to focus on growth and development. Without Mintlify, our products wouldn't be at the level they are now.
