We just sent out our first 1,000 invites.

But that's a tiny fraction of the number of people that signed up for the mmhmm private beta preview in the past few days. The response has been better than we could have anticipated! It makes sense, though: we all need a way to make our new unexpectedly video-based lives better. Mmhmm is already a good start, and we've got a few more tricks up our sleeve.

Here are some of our friends taking mmhmm out for a spin on the first day of the beta.

Here's my new morning routine. I’m completely addicted to this thing.

From here on in, we'll be sending invitations every day. Barring some big, unforeseen events (and when have those ever happened in 2020?), we plan on getting everyone up and running by the end of this month.We're limiting the number of beta testers that we invite in the early days to make sure we have time to investigate and solve any problems that come up before inviting the next batch. All of you are helping us make mmhmm better for the rest of the world. Thank you!

To learn about how to use the app, check out our getting started guide. We’re working hard to make mmhmm fun and useful. We call it fuseful.

Here are a few other notes:

• As a product in its early beta, you may encounter bugs. Please report any bug you find to help@mmhmm.app. We really appreciate this.
• We want to hear your feedback and feature requests as well! Send them to iwant@mmhmm.app.
• The software will check for updates each time you launch it. When an update is available, please install it.
• Make sure your Mac is updated to macOS Catalina (10.15). Windows and mobile apps will be coming soon.
• If you want to use mmhmm with Zoom, you’ll need the latest version, so please check for updates. To use it with Google Meet, please use the Chrome or Firefox browsers and remember to restart your browser after installing mmhmm.

Just getting started

Hi! It's been ten days since we launched the mmhmm private beta preview. Since then, we've invited more than six thousand people to become testers, stomped many bugs, and debated hundreds of feature requests. There are still many more people on the waitlist and we're working round the clock to get everyone in.

Here's our daily beta routine:

1. Invite enough people in the morning to get a statistically significant look at whether we've successfully fixed previously identified bugs and whether new features are working as intended.
2. Work to make the product better.
3. When we think we've made enough progress, release a new build, go to sleep, and start over at step 1.

There are twenty-four of us working on mmhmm from all over the world, so someone is always on step 2.

We're on track to get everyone who has signed up so far on board in the next few weeks. In the meantime:

• Join our team and help us build faster and better. Check out our quickly growing set of job listings. If you already have an excellent job, refer your friends.
• We've refreshed our getting started guide, so take a look to know what to expect. I always read product manuals before things arrive because I'm too excited to do it when they finally get delivered. Is that strange?
• Check out my video about how I beat video meeting fatigue by tricking my brain with some mmhmm features.
• Check out this MUCH BETTER VIDEO made by one of our beta testers. When Charlie, presently age nine, inevitably becomes famous, you can say you saw him here first.
• Our research team will be reaching out at random (because, science) to interview people on the waitlist. Please talk to us if you have time. We'll send an invite to anyone we interview immediately after.
